How can the fire performance of steel-framed homes be improved?

To improve the fireproof performance of Steel Structure residence, we can start from choosing fireproof materials, optimizing structural design, improving construction quality, etc. The specific methods are as follows:

Use of fireproof coating: Choose suitable steel structure fireproof coating, and determine the coating type according to the use environment and fire resistance limit requirements of the residence, such as thick, thin or ultra-thin fireproof coating. During construction, it is necessary to ensure that the steel surface is clean, free of oil and dust, and spray or brush the coating in accordance with the specified construction process and thickness to ensure that the coating is even and without leakage, so as to effectively block the heat transfer and improve the fire resistance time of the steel structure.

Adopting fireproof boards: fireproof boards such as fireproof gypsum board and fiber cement board can be used to wrap the steel structure components. Fix the plate on the steel surface through bolts, self-tapping nails and other connectors to form a closed fireproof protection shell, which can effectively slow down the heating rate of the steel. In the installation process, pay attention to the tight splicing between the plates to avoid gaps leading to heat penetration.

Setting up fire separation: Reasonably divide the fire partition of the building and use firewalls, fire shutters and other fire separation facilities to separate different functional areas. Firewalls should be made of non-combustible materials and should be set directly on the foundation or load-bearing structures such as frames and beams, so as to prevent the fire from spreading in the event of a fire, and to buy time for evacuation and fire rescue.

Optimization of structural design: In the design stage of steel structure residence, the overall fireproof performance of steel structure can be improved through reasonable selection of member cross-section, increasing the stability of members and other measures. For example, box section members have better fire protection performance than I-beam section members, because box section can protect the internal steel more effectively and reduce heat transfer.

Improve the construction quality: Strengthen the management and quality control of the construction site to ensure that the fabrication and installation of the steel structure meet the design requirements and the fire protection measures are in place. Strictly check the welding quality of steel structure components to avoid premature decline of steel strength in fire due to welding defects. At the same time, the construction quality of fireproof coating and the installation quality of fireproof panels should be checked and accepted one by one to ensure the effect of fire protection.
